Syn

This woman is going to be the death of me. I didn’t think she could possibly be any more beautiful, but she has really outdone herself. This is the real Journey. I don’t ever want her to go back to hiding herself. I hold her close to me as we walk back over to Steel’s house, and she blushes when we walk in the door.

Kell has all the plans laid out on the dining room table. “It’s about time you two made it back over,” Steel says. I deserve any ribbing he has in store for me. God knows I’ve given him enough grief about him and Ady, I’m just not sure how Journey will handle it. I deflect his comments by immersing myself in the plans.

Journey has given me the addresses she had for the two Chinese dignitaries that might be holding Venture, and they are now marked on the middle of the map with two large red X’s. They’re within the same block as one another.

“Here is our entry point.” I point to the waterway. “I have a contact who can get us there by boat. He runs a barge outside of Texas. We can stow away on one of the containers, it will deliver us here.” I point to a spot on the coast of New China. “There is an underground waterway, we can follow it to here.” I point to a spot not far from the red X’s. “Then it’s a matter of making it on foot.”

“I can’t wait to see my sister after all these years,” she says. “When are we leaving?”

Everyone is staring at me. “You are not coming with us.” I close my eyes as the words come out because I know she is going to lose it.

She pauses while my words sink in, and then her face flushes with anger. “Yes I am!” she yells.

“No, you’re not. Trav, Kell, and Steel are coming with me.” I open my eyes and face her. She practically has steam coming from her ears.

“This is my sister and my problem.” She’s angry.

“And if you get caught, they will turn you over to Axton, and you know it.”

“And if you get caught, they will send you to their Chinese prison.” Her hands are on her hips.

“We won’t get caught.” I’m not giving in to her.

Trav steps in front of her. “Please, let us do this. You’ve done your best to help her, now let us try. I don’t want to risk Axton getting his hands on you again. I’m going with them and you are staying here.”

I can tell she’s still not thrilled, but she nods to him in agreement.

“Getting her out will be our biggest problem. We have to kidnap whichever dignitary is holding her. He will be able to drive us across the border.”

“Wait, what? That could land all of you in jail,” Gray says.

“We’ll have him arrested as soon as we cross the border. He can be held in jail here for his role in human trafficking,” I tell them.
